Most weeks, the show had a serious theme, but there were also those funny episodes that stick out in my memory, one of which being the episode when someone came gunning for Marshall Dillon's deputy, Festus, The show started out as a radio drama, as listeners of old time radio can attest, with William Conrad voicing the part of Dillon. In the middle part of the 1950′s the decision was made to take the show and make a television series of it.
